Quick update from the freedom department (see last week).

After 15 years of running companies in the UK I’m done with the grind. I never want the paperwork again, especially VAT. Endless forms, accountants chasing receipts, quarterly headaches… no thanks.

Here in Slovakia life is refreshingly simple. I can be self-employed, earn up to €50K before VAT, pay a flat 15% tax, and forget about receipts. That’s more than enough for a great life.

And that’s the point. Why scale past what you need? More customers, more revenue, more moving parts — but also more stress. Freedom gets traded away for growth that doesn’t even make you happier.

Maciej, my Polish partner, came to the same conclusion. We’d rather keep things lean and healthy than chase some imaginary “bigger is better” number.

That means LetterOperators is now capped at 20 customers max. We’re at 16 now with 4 spots left.

We once used a “waiting list” as a gimmick. This time it’s real.

And here’s the funny thing… in poker there’s a concept called “capping your range.” Sometimes you deliberately limit the hands you could have to make your opponent think you’re weaker than you are. Done right, it tricks them into making mistakes while you stay in control.

We’re doing the same here. By capping the business at 20 spots, it might look like we’re limiting ourselves, but in reality, it’s the opposite. It creates space for more freedom, better decisions, and ultimately a stronger position.

Outside of this €50K earned income cap, I’ll have fun with domains, poker winnings, and investments. But the business itself stays lean, focused, and stress-free.

That’s the new rule: freedom first, business second.
